2014 Fall Field Day

Chris Dew Wins The CGSA 2014 Fall Field Day

Chris Dew, Superintendent at The National Golf Club in Woodbridge, Ontario is the 2014 CGSA Fall Field Day Champion. Chris fired a five-over-par round of 75 to capture the title on the Muskoka Lakes Golf and Country Club, par 70, 6,000-yard layout.

The low net champion at this year’s event is Jamie Camalucci from the Timberwolf Golf Club in Garson, Ontario with a net score of 62.

A total of 112 golfers competed in the 2014 Fall Field Day in bright sunshine and 20+ degree weather.  After receiving five-plus inches of rain from Saturday evening through Sunday at noon from a storm that left the area without power for 24 hours, Superintendent Jim Flett, his assistants Robert Clark and Mathew Hamilton and the entire turf management team at Muskoka Lakes had the course in awesome condition for the one day tournament.

CGSA President, Christian Pilon called Jim and his team’s effort, “…nothing short of phenomenal,” while praising the efforts of PGA of Canada Pro Jordan Nathan, Clubhouse Manager Pat Bakogeorge and General Manager Trevor Noonan for their contributions to the success of the day.

Gross and net prizes were handed out to 14 individuals in four flights with another six prizes going to long drive and closest to the pin winners during the awards ceremony. In addition, several CGSA award recipients were announced for the first time, including Jim Nix, 2014 CGSA Bayer Superintendent of the Year, Carmen Kozak, CGSA Future Superintendent of the Year and Jim Ross, the 2014 John B Steel award recipient.

Winners of the nine-hole, better ball event at The Rock on Monday, September 22 included low gross winners R.J. Cloutier, Superintendent at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and host of the 2015 CGSA Fall Field Day, and his playing partner Christian Pilon. The low net winners were Barrie Carpenter from OakCreek Golf and Turf and Dean Morrison, Superintendent at the Calgary Golf and Country Club, both from Calgary, Alberta.

A big thank you goes out to Deni Terenzio, Superintendent at The Rock for presenting a tremendous golf course for Fall Field Day participants a mere 20 hours after the devastating rains that ended Sunday afternoon. Deni’s course had several major washouts that needed immediate attention to protect the golf course and the irrigation system from further damage. Despite that, Deni had The Rock in top form for Monday’s event.

Many thanks to sponsors Toro, Bayer, Plant Science and John Deere and to the 24 other companies that contributed in a very meaningful and very much appreciated way to the success of the 48th annual CGSA Fall Field Day.  Please see the full list of sponsors below.

The 2015 CGSA Fall Field Day will be hosted by R. J. Cloutier from September 20–22 at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and the Fairmont Jasper Park Golf Club in Jasper, Alberta.
