Water Source Protection

ONTARIO

Ontario's Conservation Authorities have established a Source Protection Committee, under the Ontario Clean Water Act, in each of 19 designated regions. (To access a map showing the 19 regions, please click here.) These 19 regions/areas will have one source protection committee each. This committee is tasked with developing a source protection plan for their area or region and must consult very broadly across the watershed at three key stages - during the preparation of the terms of reference, the assessment report and the source protection plan.

Where source protection areas have been consolidated into a region, a source protection authority will be designated as the lead and co-ordinate the efforts of the authorities across each and provide administrative and technical support to the committee during the development of the terms of reference, assessment report and the source protection plan.
