Award Deadline Dates to Remember:

CGSA/Toro Environmental Achievement Award – Deadline Date is November 30th

Nominees for this award will be judged on their overall commitment to environmentalism and their demonstration of the value of these initiatives to their respective golf clubs and the golf industry at large.  This demonstration of commitment involves submission of an “environmental management plan” as per chapter three of the CGSA Environmental Management Resource Manual”.  Applicants must be in one of the following Categories Superintendent or Golf Course Management and a member of CGSA.

The recipient of this award will receive; a free registration for the Canadian International Turfgrass Conference and Trade Show; 4 night’s accommodation at the host hotel; and economy air fare to the conference location. As well, the winner receives a one-week trip for two to Spain to visit the Valderrama Golf Club.  This component of the award is generously sponsored by Toro. The CGSA/Toro Environmental Achievement Award application deadline is November 30th. Student Scholars Awards – Deadline Date is November 30th

There will be a scholarship budget of $7,500; this includes a single scholarship of $2,500 for the person chosen by the Member Services Committee as the top-ranked applicant. The remaining $5,000 will be distributed in $750 bursaries to qualified applicants, as chosen by the Member Services Committee.

The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association Scholars Fund supports "CGSA member" students attending educational programs as a means of enhancing their knowledge and skills for the turfgrass profession. This financial assistance is meant to assist members in becoming better qualified for their current employment or other opportunities within the turfgrass profession.

Gordon Witteveen GreenMaster Superintendent Authored Article of the Year

This award is presented to the superintendent or assistant superintendent who publishes in GreenMaster, the official publication of the CGSA, and whose article is judged as being the best of the year by a panel of peers

  • Authors must be a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendents member.
  • Articles must be accepted for publication in GreenMaster between January 1 and December 31 of the year for which the award is being presented.

The Toro Company has generously donated a $500 cash prize to the recipient of this award.

Superintendent of the Year ~ Deadline Date is May 1st

This title is awarded to a superintendent who is nominated by peers and chosen by a peer-group selection committee as a knowledgeable and competent member of the profession who is distinguished in the practice of golf course management.  The person chosen by CGSA also receives the Score Golf Award for Superintendent of the Year.

Nominees for this award must be CGSA superintendent members that have been superintendents for a period of at least five years. The deadline for the receipt of these materials is May 1. For more information, or to download the nomination form, please click here.

CGSA/Toro Future Superintendent of the Year - Deadline Date is March 31st

This award is offered to student members of CGSA who are completing their graduating year in a CGSA recognized program.  It provides an opportunity for a six week study program at Elmwood College in Scotland and a one week work study program at St. Andrews.  It also includes a trip to Toro headquarters in Minneapolis. CGSA will provide you with a free registration for the Canadian International Turfgrass Conference and Trade Show; 4 night’s accommodation at the host hotel; and economy air fare to the conference location.  This program is generously supported by the Toro Corporation.  The deadline for the respective schools to submit nominees is March 31st each year.

President’s Scholarship – Deadline Date is June 30th

The CGSA Board of Directors established a Post Secondary Scholarship Award to recognize the scholastic accomplishments of students who are the children or grandchildren of a CGSA member and are enrolled in any full time post secondary education program. There will be two awards of $1,000.00 each and the primary criteria for consideration will be academic.

This program provides substantial support to a child or grandchild of a CGSA member and recognizes the hard work and achievements of that individual during their last year of high school. It also provides CGSA an opportunity to give back to the membership and support the ongoing education of an individual.

The scholarships will be presented to two applicants that have the highest overall average for their high school graduating year and who are entering the first year of a post secondary program.  Applicants must be the child or grandchild of a CGSA member in good standing.  Each applicant is required to provide a transcript of their grades and a 500 word essay outlining why the award is important to them.  The essay will only be reviewed if there is a tie.  The deadline date to submit applications is June 30.

John B. Steel ~ Deadline Date is July 1st

John B.Steel was a driving force behind the formation of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association and served as the association’s first president.  The inaugural award was presented in 1991 in conjunction with the association’s 25th anniversary and the first recipient of this award was John B. Steel himself. 

This award is presented annually to an individual, chosen by the CGSA Board of Directors, who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of the profession of Golf Course Superintendent.   An individual may be nominated by the Board of Directors of CGSA or by a CGSA superintendent member.
