About the CGSA

In 1966, Canadian Superintendents organized themselves to form the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association.

CGSA, now with close to 1,600 members, hosts the Canadian International Turfgrass Conference and Trade Show each year in March and organizes frequent regional education seminars.  It helps sponsor research projects through its participation in the CTRF and produces a number of publications including its official national publication, GreenMaster and an Annual Membership Directory.  CGSA also has an Employment Referral Service that helps members seeking new positions called Super Search.  CGSA is an active participant, along with eight other national Golf Associations, in the Quarterly Allied Golf Association Meetings.

In 1987 CGSA established a Master Superintendent Designation Program, to identify progressive Superintendents and to formulate standards of excellence in the golf course management profession.  This program was renewed and strengthened in 1994 to require a written examination.

In 1998 National Occupational Standards (N.O.S.) were adopted and the association produced the Environmental Management Resource Manual ©.

CGSA Members adopted a motion in 2005 to accept a new accrediation program.  This program was implemented in July 2006.
